The Indian tropical water lily, Nymphaea Stellata, has many hybrid varieties with a wide range of shade of blue to violet. This is a beautiful plant with star shaped light blue to purple flowers on tall stems. The green leaves are initially faintly splashed purplish-maroon and then become bright green. This Nymphaea is quite cold tolerant, sweetly fragrant, and blooms all year round in hot climate. These blue/purple colored water lilies are suitable for medium to larger ponds or even farm dams. They require a much larger water surface area for their leaf spread, about 4-5 feet; hence, coverage is more when compared with small/miniature size water lilies.
